Un Cane, la sua Palla e la Fotografia - A Dog, its Ball and Photography

Ieri ho scattato questa foto. Mi piace, così l'ho pubblicata sulla mia pagina Instagram e un amico fotografo, eta.beta70, ha commentato così: "Può la fotografia rappresentare la realtà? O piuttosto altro non è che il punto di vista del fotografo, che nel momento in cui sceglie I'inquadratura piuttosto
che la prospettiva, decide su cosa mettere I'accento, nell'incessante eterna ricerca dell'immortalità... ? ".
Un pensiero interessante A cui ho risposto con quello che penso significhi fotografare. Quando scatto una foto, ho completato un processo iniziato in precedenza. Un processo mentale che si traduce in scelte operative. Ogni foto è il risultato di scelte consapevoli di inquadratura (ciò che scatto e ciò che lascio fuori dalla cornice), l'esposizione, la scelta del soggetto principale, la scelta dei soggetti secondari e la loro disposizione, il bianco e nero o il colore e altro ancora. Ci sono anche scelte nella fase di post produzione. Contrasto, filtro rosso o arancione, possibile ritaglio (ma questo dovrebbe essere evitato), raddrizzamento dell'orizzonte e altro. Queste scelte, tutte queste scelte, obbediscono solo alla logica creativa. A un solo perché. Scatto questa foto per dire qualcosa. Anche le semplici cartoline, le foto ricordo, le foto commerciali e le foto per i passaporti raccontano qualcosa. In mezzo a tutto ciò, al centro di tutto questo c'è la vita che si svolge. A volte devo sperare che gli dei della fotografia, come nel caso di questa foto, facciano stare fermo il cane per il tempo necessario all'uomo che avanza dietro le colonne di sinistra per raggiungere il punto in cui lo voglio, e il vento non faccia sparire le nuvole in alto a destra. Ecco perché, secondo me, per scattare una foto come la vogliamo, dobbiamo conoscere questo processo in modo approfondito. E voler capire il mondo per raccontarlo agli altri.

An interesting thought. To which I replied with what I think is the meaning of photography. When I take a photo, I complete a process that has started earlier. A mental process that translates into operational choices. Any photo is the result of conscious choices of framing (what I shoot and what I leave out of the frame), exposure, choice of the main subject, choice of secondary subjects and their arrangement, black and white or color, and more. There are other choices in the post production phase. Contrast, red or orange filter, possible cropping (but this should be avoided), straightening of the horizon and more. These choices, all these choices, obey to one creative logic only.
Just one. I take this photo to say something. Even simple postcards, souvenir photos, commercial photos and passport photos "mean" something. In the midst of all this, indeed at the center of all this is, there's life that unfolds. Sometimes I have to hope that the gods of photography, as in the case of this photo, let the dog sit still for the time necessary for the man who advances behind the columns on the left to reach the point where I want him, and the wind does not make the clouds at the top right disappear. That's why in my opinion, to take a picture as we want it, we need to know this process in depth. And have the will to understand the world to tell it to the others.

Quando ci fermiamo ad osservare una bella fotografia, paradossalmente ci sembra semplice... La grandezza del fotografo si esprime nella naturalezza con cui riesce a racchiudere le scelte tecniche e compositive, riuscendo ad essere al momento giusto nel posto giusto, per fermare quella frazione di secondo capace di raccontare una storia intera.
